$174 Billion For Ukraine, But Pennies For Hurricane Victims in North Carolina? America’s Priorities Are Broken

According to North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Hurricane Helene has caused $53 billion in damages, making it the most destructive natural disaster in the state’s history. Families have lost everything—homes, jobs, even loved ones. Yet, federal assistance is nowhere to be found.

A Disaster Zone Ignored

Volunteers working in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene describe a grim reality. Dead bodies are still being recovered two months later.

“We’ve found bones that have been sent off to be identified,” said Kat Arnsdorff, a volunteer working tirelessly in the disaster zone.

Meanwhile, survivors are forced to fend for themselves. Many live in tents or makeshift shelters, desperately trying to protect what little they have left.

“There are some people that are still on their property, fighting for it, making sure looters don’t come in,”Arnsdorff added.

Winter is here. These families are freezing while the federal government drags its feet. FEMA claims there’s no money left to help.

One victim, Sarah from Swannanoa, North Carolina, was told straight-up: “Funds have run out.” Now, her family lives in a trailer, paying extra for a portable toilet just to get by.

Billions For Ukraine, Crumbs For Us

Meanwhile, our so-called leaders in Washington have handed Ukraine a staggering $174 billion. That’s YOUR money—money that should be rebuilding homes in North Carolina, not buying missiles for Kyiv.

And it doesn’t stop there. Just this week, Joe Biden announced he’s canceling $4.65 billion in debt Ukraine owes us. That’s right: the same government that told hurricane victims they’re out of funds is forgiving billions of dollars to a foreign nation.

“We already have it so rough,” Sarah said, “and to not be able to get the financial help that we need, it’s really awful.”

Awful is an understatement. It’s a slap in the face.
