A Storm We Could Have Seen Coming

Hurricane Helene struck two weeks ago, tearing through the Deep South and Appalachia, drowning regions rarely hit by storms of this magnitude. This wasn’t some freak occurrence—warmer Gulf waters and La Niña conditions guaranteed this catastrophe. Helene claimed 235 lives, with hundreds still missing, and left entire communities in ruins. But what’s more tragic than the devastation itself? Our leaders' response—using this disaster as another chance to push their political agendas instead of addressing the root cause: our failure to adapt. Two things that don't mix: political agendas and natural disasters.

Political Theater at Its Worst

After the storm subsided, what did we see? Politicians rushing to the disaster zones, posing for cameras, handing out empty promises like candy. The usual suspects, like Kamala Harris, wasted no time making this about climate change, insisting that we’re all doomed unless we hand the government more power over our energy choices. It’s the same script they always follow—spread fear, then grab more control. But here’s the hard truth they’re not telling you: no amount of government intervention will stop hurricanes.

The Climate Control Lie

Let’s not fall for the deception. The idea that hurricanes can be halted by shutting down industries and surrendering our economic freedoms to radical environmental policies is laughable. Even the most extreme climate alarmists can’t promise a future without storms. At best, they predict a minor reduction in storm intensity—if we abandon the comforts of modern life and submit to draconian regulations. But hurricanes have been battering the planet for centuries, and they will continue. The real threat isn’t in the weather; it’s in the illusion that government can somehow protect us from nature’s wrath.

Real Protection Starts with Prosperity

If we truly want to protect our communities, it’s time to focus on what actually works: economic growth and smart infrastructure. The wealth generated by the Industrial Revolution didn’t just fill our pockets; it gave us the tools to survive the worst nature can throw at us. Stronger buildings, advanced technology, and resilient infrastructure have allowed us to withstand hurricanes, wildfires, and floods. But the sad reality is that not everyone enjoys these protections. The communities hit hardest by Hurricane Helene were those left vulnerable by a lack of resources and preparation.

And why are they so vulnerable? Because instead of pursuing policies that encourage growth and self-sufficiency, our leaders continue pushing agendas that keep people dependent and poor. The real answer to surviving extreme weather isn’t more government. It’s less. We need to unleash market-driven solutions, protect property rights, and encourage the innovation that has always made societies more resilient. These are the pillars of survival, not the empty promises of a so-called "carbon-neutral" future.

The True Threat Lies in Inaction

The real threat isn’t the next hurricane. It’s the way our leaders distract us with fearmongering while undermining the very systems that protect us. If we continue to let this false climate narrative dominate, more people will be left defenseless when the next storm hits. Hurricanes aren’t going away, but our ability to survive them is entirely within our control—if we focus on real solutions.

It’s time to stop listening to the fear merchants and start demanding policies that work. Our future depends on it.
