Data from over 100,000 financing applications shows a sharp and devastating decline in small business earnings at the end of 2024, with no signs of recovery heading into 2025. The numbers are grim. Monthly earnings dropped by nearly $68,000 compared to 2023 – a catastrophic blow. And it’s not just the earnings. Business costs – rent, insurance, labor – have ballooned, leaving owners drowning in a sea of expenses.
The study also shows profits plummeted 43% in 2024. That’s not a typo. This isn’t some temporary dip. This is a full-on collapse. Why? Because small businesses don’t have the luxury of billion-dollar balance sheets to absorb inflation and rising costs. When prices go up, it hits them like a freight train.
The False Promises of Bidenomics

The incoming Trump administration has promised to reverse course, vowing to slash regulations, cut taxes, and put Main Street first. Small business owners are desperate for relief. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) just released its Small Business Optimism Index, which saw a significant jump in December – the highest since 2018. Why? Because there’s hope that someone in Washington will finally stand up for the little guy.
Trump’s team says fixing the economy will be a priority from Day One, and not a moment too soon. “Based on our data on later months of 2024, the start of 2025 could be a rocky one for small businesses,” says Rohit Arora, CEO of Biz2Credit.
