In one video, the vlogger even suggests you immerse your American Silver Eagle coins underwater for something up to 12 hours to short-circuit the electric surveillance gadgets embedded into your coins. Are we witnessing sheer paranoia on a large scale or have governments leveled up their interventionist game with the latest technologies? The truth, sadly, sits somewhere between truth and paranoia. In cases where surveillance can occur, it’s important to separate the absurd from more viable claims. If you don’t understand what it is you're confronting, it becomes challenging to distinguish between genuine due diligence and the allure of unsubstantiated hype. Why Would the Government Want to Track Your Coin Holdings? Stated plainly, governments aim to exert control. The problem is that the more control they have, the more paranoid their systems become. Not only does history attest to this, but it’s a common feature across nearly all political landscapes throughout the world. In terms of monetary control, it’s all about economic dominance, domestically if not globally. Financial Turmoil and Economic Security Financial turmoil gives governments the perfect excuse. So naturally, governments planning a CBDC economy would want to keep an eye on every gold and silver coin in circulation. Surveillance Under the Guise of Authenticity Enter two technologies: Near Field Communication (NFC) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) These tags, embedded into precious metal coins, are designed to track a coin's journey. Sure, they combat counterfeiting and guarantee authenticity. But they do so at the cost of your privacy. In a recent UK video showing collectors how to short-circuit or circumvent government surveillance technologies in coins (some of it is a bit absurd), the author does, however, expose a tactic that some governments use to track coin deliveries: GPS trackers embedded into the boxes themselves. If you look closely at the GPS tracker logo and do simple online research, you’ll notice that Lebera is, indeed, a UK-based telecommunications provider servicing Europe, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. Is this type of thing going on primarily in the UK? Nobody knows for sure as to which countries are tracking their precious metals coins. But we do know one thing… The US Mint Does NOT Participate in Coin Tracking Coins minted by the United States Mint are NOT embedded with NFC (Near Field Communication) or RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags. The embedding of NFC or RFID technology in coins would likely involve significant changes in the manufacturing process and could raise both cost and security concerns. The primary purposes of coins minted by the U.S. Mint continues to be for circulation and collection only. It goes without saying that this excludes the integration of electronic tags. In short, United States coinage offers the most secured form of privacy and freedom since they’re issued by the U.S. Department of Treasury and manufactured by the US Mint. Unfortunately, most coin experts can’t extend this benefit to coins minted in the United Kingdom or any country for that matter. Collecting coins minted in the UK as well as other countries may expose collectors to potential risks and uncertainties regarding privacy and security, as these coins do not benefit from the same stringent protections and oversight as those issued by the U.S. Department of Treasury. So, if you’re seeking the highest standards of privacy and security in your investments, remember that American Gold Eagle and American Silver Eagle coins are the most prudent choices.
