In yet another jaw-dropping display of bureaucratic corruption, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) officials actively blocked investigators from accessing key financial records—records that, once uncovered, revealed a grotesque misuse of American taxpayer dollars.

Investigators working for Senate DOGE Caucus Chairman Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) were repeatedly stonewalled when they tried to get a look at where the money was going. And when USAID finally relented, they forced the investigators to review the documents “under surveillance in a highly secure room at USAID headquarters,” despite the fact that none of the information was classified.

Why the secrecy? Because the so-called “aid” wasn’t about rebuilding Ukraine—it was about enriching elites and cronies under the cover of war.

Luxury Over National Interest

What did investigators find buried in these so-called “aid” packages?

$114,000 for a premium, limited-edition furniture line
$91,000 for a Scandinavian-style furniture trade mission
$148,000 for a pickle company
$255,000 to an organic tea and coffee producer
$104,000 to an artisanal fruit tea company
$89,000 to a Ukrainian vineyard
$300,000 to a dog collar manufacturer
$300,000 for a pet tracking app
$161,000 for a “contemporary knitwear” brand
$126,000 for a fashion photographer
$84,000 to support a luxury bridal brand

This isn’t “aid.” This is taxpayer-funded extravagance, all while Americans are told to tighten their belts and accept record-high grocery prices.

Sen. Ernst called out this absurdity back in November 2023 when she wrote to then-USAID Administrator Samantha Power:

“My support for providing weapons and munitions to Ukrainian fighters as they counter [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is steadfast. But I am weary of doling out nearly $25 billion in hardworking Americans’ tax dollars for so-called economic aid in Ukraine, including subsidies for overseas businesses such as a ‘luxury contemporary knitwear couture’ in Kyiv.”

USAID: The Corrupt ATM of the Deep State

If USAID’s mismanagement of Ukraine funds wasn’t bad enough, the agency has also been caught funneling at least $122 million to organizations in the Middle East that have direct ties to Hamas, Hezbollah, and al-Qaeda.

Middle East Forum Executive Director Gregg Roman didn’t hold back when describing the situation:

“We’re not just talking about waste, fraud, and abuse—this is a national security problem. Every misdirected dollar destabilizes conflict zones and puts American lives at risk.”

This has been going on since the Obama administration, ballooned under Biden, and now, thanks to Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk, we’re finally getting forensic audits into just how deep this rabbit hole goes.

The Tip of the Iceberg

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), chair of the House DOGE Subcommittee, put it plainly:

“What the DOGE team has uncovered with USAID is shocking, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg.”

And she’s right. Because if USAID—a single agency—has been caught laundering hundreds of millions in taxpayer funds, imagine what’s hidden across the rest of the bloated federal bureaucracy.
