The bill is named after Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student in Georgia who was brutally assaulted and murdered last February while jogging near her campus. Her killer? Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal immigrant who had been arrested and released multiple times for theft.

This man shouldn’t have been in the country, let alone walking free. But thanks to our broken immigration system—and the Left’s relentless push for “compassion” at the expense of American lives—he was.

The tragedy shook Georgia to its core, sparking outrage and new state laws demanding immigration enforcement. Yet Democrats in Congress seem to think Laken’s life is just another “exception” in their broader campaign to ignore the rule of law.

The Left’s Excuses Fall Apart

Democrats who opposed the bill claim it’s “too broad.” They whine that it might detain illegals who’ve lived in the U.S. for years or who were “wrongly arrested.” Let’s not forget: this bill targets criminals.
