On Day One of his second term, he signed an executive order halting the federal government from issuing or accepting citizenship documents for children born to illegal immigrant parents after its effective date—set for later this month.

“The Fourteenth Amendment has never been interpreted to extend citizenship universally to everyone born within the United States.”
Predictably, the legal opposition was immediate. Three federal judges—one in Washington, another in Maryland, and the most recent in New Hampshire—moved to block Trump’s order, citing longstanding legal precedent.
