The GOP Is Just the Rear Guard of the Revolution: How “Conservatives” Keep Selling Out America

EDITOR'S NOTES

What if the so-called conservative movement isn’t conserving anything at all? What if the Republican Party has become nothing more than the cleanup crew for every progressive revolution, defending the ruins as if they were sacred? This article tears the mask off “Conservatism, Inc.” and exposes the truth: the GOP isn’t fighting to save the Republic—it’s helping to bury it. From Lincoln’s centralization to modern civil rights theater, from media puppets to the erasure of Southern tradition, the Republican establishment has sold out liberty, heritage, and the Constitution. It’s time to stop playing defense and start reclaiming what we’ve lost.

Conserving the Status Quo Means Conserving Tyranny

Friedrich Hayek, no wild-eyed populist, made a devastating point that most beltway conservatives would rather ignore: conservatism without principle is just inertia. It fights to “preserve” whatever happens to be current—even if what’s current is a bloated federal Leviathan, a weaponized DOJ, and a culture war aimed squarely at traditional Americans.

When institutions were free, defending them meant defending liberty. But once the institutions were hijacked—by progressives, technocrats, and the global elite—defending them became a form of surrender.

The Republican Party, Hayek warned, always trails behind the radicals, embracing yesterday’s revolution as today’s “reasonable” position. And in 2026, that’s exactly where the GOP sits: on the back of the progressive bus, nodding along while claiming to steer.

Lincoln’s Legacy: Centralization and Civil Religion

The rot runs deep—and it didn’t start with Joe Biden or Barack Obama.

The centralizing revolution of Abraham Lincoln fundamentally altered the trajectory of American conservatism. What was once a movement rooted in local control, states’ rights, and decentralized governance became a messianic crusade for federal power, cloaked in the language of equality.

Modern Republicans worship Lincoln as a civil rights prophet, parroting the progressive myth of a “Second Founding.” They’ve absorbed the entire egalitarian ideology of the Left, dressing it up in stars and stripes, and preaching it from CPAC stages like it's gospel.

But the Founders weren’t egalitarians. They didn’t believe in equity. They believed in liberty. And they built a system to guard liberty against centralized tyranny—not to impose equality at gunpoint.

The GOP’s Civil Rights Fetish: Bowing to the Left’s Gods

Consider this: House Speaker Mike Johnson and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, two so-called conservatives, proudly celebrated the replacement of Robert E. Lee’s statue with a civil rights figure in the U.S. Capitol. The same Lee whose memory once represented honor, sacrifice, and the limits of federal power.

This is more than symbolism. This is surrender.

It’s the Republican Party joining the Left in memory-holing the traditions, figures, and ideas that once made this country free. They might grumble about cancel culture, but they eagerly participate in it when the moment comes to prove their progressive credentials.

They’re not resisting. They’re just negotiating the terms of our cultural defeat.

“Conservatism, Inc.”: Media Theater for Controlled Opposition

Paul Gottfried hit the nail on the head when he described the modern conservative movement as a media circus, not a political force. What passes for conservatism today is just a recycling bin for old progressive ideas, wrapped in American flag graphics and funded by billionaire donors.

We get Fox News soundbites, Turning Point rallies, and endless TikTok lectures from “conservative influencers.” But we don’t get action. We don’t get principles. We don’t get leaders who will tear the system down and build something that actually protects us.

And behind the scenes? Conservative “leaders” are shaking hands with the same banks, the same globalists, the same military-industrial complex that’s robbing this nation blind.

Erasing Southern Tradition: Memory-Holing the Real Right

Robert Lewis Dabney. M.E. Bradford. Names you’ll never hear on cable news. And for good reason—they spoke the truth about liberty, decentralization, and the dangers of federal overreach. But they’ve been cast into the void by the modern right because they don’t fit the sanitized narrative of Lincoln-as-savior and civil-rights-as-founding-principle.

Dabney warned that conservatives merely bark at every new progressive advance, then quietly accept it. And that’s exactly what we see today. Gay marriage? Drag shows in schools? Vaccine mandates? Open borders?

Every one of these used to be “unthinkable.” Now they’re the “new normal,” and the GOP’s job is to tell you to settle down and accept it.

This isn’t leadership. It’s managed decline.

Equality with a Capital E: A False God

The modern conservative movement worships “Equality” the way ancient empires worshiped false gods. But equality—as a political religion—is the enemy of freedom.

Conservatism, if it means anything, means protecting natural rights, defending hierarchies of competence and order, and limiting the reach of government. But instead, we’ve imported the Left’s playbook wholesale and called it a moral victory.

You can’t defend liberty while preaching equity. The two are fundamentally opposed.

The Real Divide: Liberty vs. Control

Stop thinking in terms of Left and Right. That’s the illusion the elites use to keep you asleep. The real divide is this:

Freedom vs. Tyranny.
Self-rule vs. Technocracy.
Cash vs. Digital Control.
America First vs. Globalism.

The GOP doesn’t understand this. Or worse—they do, and they’re in on the con.

Every time they compromise with socialism, every time they defend the latest “status quo,” they’re helping to lock you into a system of permanent surveillance, censorship, and financial dependence.

They’ve joined hands with the Fed, with Big Tech, and with the military-industrial elite to trap you in the digital cage. FedNow, CBDCs, digital IDs—these are not theories. They’re the architecture of your enslavement. And the GOP is too weak—or too bought—to stop them.

What Comes Next: Patriots or Puppets?

The Republican Party is no longer a vehicle for liberty. It’s the rear guard of the revolution. It exists to slow-walk the destruction of America, so you don’t notice it’s happening until it’s too late.

It’s time to stop hoping they’ll grow a spine. They won’t.

We need a movement that throws off the chains of fake conservatism, that tells the truth about the banking elite, the surveillance state, the open border invasion, and the culture war aimed at your children.

No more defense.
No more retreat.
No more compromise.

Read the truth the elites don’t want you to see
